“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you know me at all, I’m pretty bad at making decisions. Like, if we’re in a group deciding where to eat, you know not to ask me unless you want a “Oh, I dunno. I’m down for whatever.” As much as I want to be spontaneous, I usually think long and hard about the decisions I make in life (even the ones not involving food). I mean, this is good, because it’s usually never good to rush through anything. But sometimes I take a little too long to decide. So much that opportunities pass before I even get to do anything about it. To use another quote:
“The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision.”
Nothing is going to happen unless you decide you want it. Even if you fail, you went for something you wanted, and that is often many times better than not coming to a decision and living your life wondering what could have been.
This internal battle is what my tattoo symbolizes. It’s two arrows that connect in the middle, meaning I won’t go anywhere unless I choose a direction. Any time I feel stuck, or if I’m too scared to do something, I’ll always have a reminder to just go ahead and make a damn decision already.
That and…it looks pretty damn cool.
