I was pretty excited for the adaptations of Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, and I still am, but some casting choices seem a little strange to me. And by a little, I mean a lottle. We already know that Shailene Woodley is pretty much killing the YA movie scene and landing ALL THE ROLES, since she got the role of Tris in Divergent, and Hazel in TFIOS.
In a past post, five actors were said to be testing for the role of Augustus, including Ansel Elgort, who plays Caleb in Divergent…a.k.a. the brother of Tris. I myself was a fan of Brenton Thwaites for Augustus, so I guess you could consider me shocked when I found out Elgort got the role.
Let’s think about that for a second.

I mean…the people in charge of this decision HAD to think of this and how weird it would be. Right? RIGHT?!
No doubt lots of people are looking forward to The Fault In Our Stars hitting the big screen, and casting news has been very, very exciting. Hypable just put up a post about five actors supposedly testing for the role of Augustus this weekend. This is super exciting for me, since I didn’t really have a clear picture of Gus as I was reading the book. Or did I? I can’t remember. Anywho, you can check the article for all five actors, but here are the ones I’m digging.
Brenton Thwaites
Nick Robinson
These two picks are purely superficial and based on looks, because I was not familiar with the actors before I saw the Hypable post. However, I did do some digging on YouTube, and found two interview clips of the two actors. Based on these, my decision felt more valid, although I should really see them acting. Anyway, the clips are below.
My mind is more than likely going to change as the casting process continues, but I’ll be fine with these two if either of them get picked. Who would you like to see play Gus?
With me being a social media freak, something I need to work on is putting the gadgets away where they don’t belong. This includes movies. Don’t get me wrong, in theaters I only ever bring my phone out to silence it, or if it seems like someone is really trying to get a hold of me. Other than that, I hate the glow of a screen in a dark theater. My problem is with watching movies at home. With no chance of strangers staring you down at home, I feel like I have more liberty in bringing out my phone to check my email, or tweet about what I’m seeing on screen. However, this really should stop, since I find I don’t get to fully focus on the movie.
So it was sort of amazing when I was trying to find something to watch on Netflix. After browsing several titles, I settled on Patrik, Age 1.5. If you’ve never heard of the film, it’s about a Swedish gay couple that thinks they’re adopting a boy that is 1.5 years old. However, there was a typo in the document they received, and the boy ended up being 15 years old. And a troublemaker. That “hates homos.”
The film touches on a lot of topics, the most obvious one being the fact that many people around the world think that gay couples are unfit to raise children (which is complete bullshit, by the way.) I don’t want to go too much into the story and give it away, since I thoroughly enjoyed it and want others to watch the film, too. So going back to what I introduced this post with, this film is in Swedish and I watched it with English subtitles.
This was quite the cure to my problem with checking my phone during movies. Since I didn’t understand the language, I couldn’t rely on just hearing the dialogue in the background. Having to focus on the subtitles to understand what was going on, checking my phone for even 5 seconds meant there was a risk of missing a major plot point. So, I made the decision to put the phone away and just fully focus on the movie. And what a great decision that was. Like I said, I enjoyed the movie and recommend it to people looking for something to watch.
This also has sparked my interest in watching more foreign movies. Although I’d rather say international. Foreign sounds a bit exclusive doesn’t it? But going back to the point, I always tune out during movie awards shows when it gets to international films, mostly because I don’t watch them. Patrik, Age 1.5 was the perfect movie to spark that interest, and I just might find myself watching more international movies on Netflix now.
Have you seen this movie, or does it sound interesting to you? Leave me a message!
As someone who has been getting into video blogging (a.k.a. vlogging), I love finding out about people through video. The documentary gives great insight into other people’s lives, and an upcoming documentary looks to be very interesting. With executive producer Zach Galifianakis, the film takes a look at Joseph Garner’s challenge in living off of Craigslist for a full month.
Read the synopsis below:
In a time when America’s economy and sense of community were crumbling, one guy left everything behind–to see if he could survive solely on the support of the 21st century’s new town square: Craigslist. It was in this climate that 29-year-old Joseph Garner cut himself off from everyone he knew and everything he owned, to embark on a bold adventure. Armed with only a laptop, cell phone, toothbrush, and the clothes on his back–alongside the hope that community was not gone but just had shifted–Joseph began his journey. For 31 December days and nights, everything in his life would come from the Craigslist website. From transportation to food, from shelter to companionship, Joe would depend on the generosity of people who had never seen him and whose sole connection to him was a giant virtual swap meet. Would America help Joe? Could he survive with nothing, apart from the goodwill of others?
In an ideal world, each superhero to hit the big screen would get the same amount of time on screen, especially with a movie as huge as The Avengers. However, this is not an ideal world, so there are some differences Hypable pointed out in the screen time each Avenger got during the movie. Who do you think got the most?
Captain America: 37:42
Iron Man: 37:01
Black Widow: 33:35
Bruce Banner: 28:03
Thor: 25:52
Hawkeye: 12:44
The tally, conducted by entertainment website, Vulture, shows quite a difference in time from Captain America to Hawkeye. Could there be inequality among The Avengers? And it leaves one question to ask: Would there be more equality in The Justice League?
“Brave” didn’t receive the type of critical response that Pixar is used to, but audiences don’t seem to care. The animated family adventure earned $24.5 million on Friday night, putting it on track for $66 million or more by Sunday night. That gives Pixar its 13th straight number one film at the box office.
At this point, I feel like no matter what the critics say, Pixar will always own the box office every time another of their movies comes out.
Channing Tatum, star of the upcoming male stripper movie, Magic Mike, has made a confession: It’s hard to be sexy. If you’re a guy, that is. According to The Huffington Post, Tatum said it was hard to reach the level of sexiness found in the Magic Mike pictures and trailer.
“Girls can just do it, just walking,” Tatum said to the Los Angeles Times about being sexy and alluring. “Guys, it’s not the same thing. Especially when you put them in a thong. Everything you’re trying to do to be sexy makes you look like a clown. I challenge any guy to go and try to be sexy to his girl. … It’s a very humbling experience.”
Considering that the extras in the trailer seem to be having a very good time on set, I think it’s safe to bet that all their hard work paid off.
Magic Mike comes out on June 29th. Will you be watching it in theaters?
Even if you don’t watch Nickelodeon anymore (which I do), you have to admit that some of their stars are talented (which they are). Check out Max Schneider and Victoria Justice as they team up with Kurt Schneider to create this amazing one-take Bruno Mars medley!
